Regensburg

UNESCO World Cultural City
UNESCO World Cultural Heritage City

The historical city on the Danube is amongst the most popular excursion destinations in the Upper Palatinate.

Culture lovers are most impressed by the 2,000-year-old history, the historical sights, many museums, concerts and theatre performances. A city tour will show you Regensburg up close: past famous sights, historical arenas and mediaeval buildings! The city’s history will enthuse young and old alike.

Regensburg Cathedral is the only Gothic cathedral in Bavaria and has characterised the city image for many years. Along with the cathedral, the salt scales, the dungeon, the Old Town Hall, the Praetorian Gate and the Stone Bridge are amongst the most important sights in the city.

Regensburger Domspatzen

The world-famous cathedral choir consisting of boys and young men is one of the oldest boys’ choirs in the world. Every year, the Domspatzen enthral thousands of listeners with their pure voices – whether that is in churches, halls or "at home" in Regensburg Cathedral.

Every year in summer and autumn, the Domspatzen travel to many German cities or go on international tours to enthral the people there. Tumultuous applause and sold-out venues speak for themselves. Visit one of these concerts and see for yourself.

Regensburg Museums

There is a lot to admire in the historical city of Regensburg. Many museums invite you to take an unforgettable journey into the past of the city. The Imperial Parliament Museum is located in the imperial hall of the building built in the 13th century. For 140 years, this was the seat of the imperial parliament of the Holy Roman Empire.

Another interesting museum is the Cathedral Treasure Museum in the South Wing of the old Bishop’s Residence. Here you can see the remains of the original Bishop’s Court and admire his treasure. The Danube Shipping Museum, the History Museum and the Snuff Tobacco Museum are also worth seeing.

Regensburg Theatre

Experience a special kind of theatre. Various plays, concerts, dance performances and musical theatre events enchant young and old.

The Tower Theatre on the sixth floor of the old Goliath House towers over the old city of Regensburg. From here the cathedral, like the stars, is within touching distance. Or how about a visit to the City Theatre? A varied programme awaits you.
